National Dance Day w/Velocity

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Travis Lake has accepted the position of Director of Dance at Velocity Dance. Effective April 2, 2018, Travis takes on this new role at Velocity Dance to continue to build our dancers, programs and studio.

Travis is an active dance artist whose teaching background spans over ten years incorporating extensive choreography throughout the country. His performance credits include MTV, Disney, Joffrey Ballet School, and Odyssey Dance Theatre.

Travis holds a B.F.A from the University of Utah. He studied under the National Scholarship from the Dizzy Feet Foundation as well as the John Scoville and Tandy Beal Award given by the School of Dance.

In 2015, Travis was named Artistic Director of Expansion Dance Company, during his time there he produced original works for the stage, Ping (2016), as well establish EXPOSE: A National Choreographic Competition, which commissions the work of choreographers nationwide. In addition to teaching daily classes, he also regularly served as a guest teacher for the Ballet West Summer Intensive.

As a choreographer, Travis’ work has been presented by elite collegiate dance teams including the University of Minnesota, Brigham Young University, and West Virginia University, among others. His work has also been recognized and awarded by National Dance Alliance and Youth America Grand Prix.

In addition to choreography, he produces music for choreographers, dance companies, universities, and independent filmmakers. Most recently, his work was commissioned by Universal Dance Association and Ballet West.

Travis is passionate about dance education and dance as creative research. He aims to inspire others through his distinct teaching methods.

Please join me in welcoming Travis to the Velocity family.

FOOD FOR OTHERS: POWER PACKS

It's that special time of the year when we all have the opportunity to put a smile on a child's face! Join us in participating in our 2nd Annual Toy Drive to benefit the kids at INOVA Children's Hospital.
There is red bin in the lobby at the studio for you to place NEW, UNWRAPPED TOYS. Last year we were able to donate over 100 toys and supplies! This year we are having a contest to see which team or showcase class can bring in the most toys! There will be a folder on the front desk, please find the paper with your team or class's name on the top and place a sticker for each toy that you bring! Each toy is worth 1 sticker, so you'll have to pick a team or class to give credit. The team or class at the end of the Drive will receive a pizza party at their end of their practice or class!
The Toy Drive will run through Friday, December 14!
Click here to see the Wish List for ideas! Also, last year the staff said how much they appreciate receiving Reusable Bags, so please consider including a reusable grocery bag
or larger with your toy!
